Get your feet wet!!!!

A big hinderance to action for some people is the fear that they can't change the direction of the world. That their actions won't be big enough to have any effect of the course of things, so why bother.

We at LiveGreen feel that any change towards green, no matter how small, is a big step. Take for instance using reusable shopping bags instead of paper or plastic. By taking the time to bring your own shopping bag, you can save virgin pulp or plastic from being wasted. If every American used reusable shopping bags, there would be 14 million more trees in the ground...and 100 BILLION plastic bags out of the landfill every year.

Need a shopping bag? Try ours! It's very durable, we've been using these for over a year.

If you want more tips on how to get your feet wet, drop us a line!

Cheers!

Recycling at Work - It's Easier than you Think!

Have you had this happen to you? You need a cup of coffee...grab your mug that you bring in every week and step up to the coffee. Next to you is another employee, a colleague, maybe even a friend who has the same need (CAFFINE!). Rather than using a mug, they grab a paper or (cringe) a styrofoam cup. Five minutes later...it's in the trash.

What can you do? You can't stand to see all this trash. You make every effort to reduce your waste, you bring your own lunch, your own mug, your reusable water jug….but every time you pass by the trash, what do you see? Paper, plastic, glass, STYROFOAM CUPS!

Well, fear not. Your fellow cube mate may be having the same dilemma. Hey, there may be a whole group of treehugging, fellow greens in the cube next door just waiting to do something.

Like most people, I work in a largish company with protocols and processes set up by management or HR. For years I had the same problems trying to find a way to change a simple problem, getting rid of the styrofoam cups. Little did I know there were others trying to do the same thing.

If you are having the same problems, find some colleagues who have a love for the environment and form a committee. Develop a new process for recycling that you can propose to management…or just do it yourself.

Try it out! If you have any success stories or questions on how to change your company to a more sustainable model, please let us know.

Increase your MPGs for free!

Riding my bike home from work today made me realize how inefficient cars are for transporting us from place to place. We use an insane amount of energy moving thousands of pounds of metal from one place (home) to another (work) every day.

The improved EPA mileage ratings are expected to provide consumers with a more 'real world' estimate of what they can expect to pay at the pump. I don't think it will keep us from upgrading our Escape V6 to the new 2008 Escape Hybrid though.

If you really want to improve your mileage, jump on a bike! Riding to work one day a week can improve you mileage by 20%! The cost is little more than maybe an extra banana and a clif bar. Try it today!
